Are you shooting only in auto button mode? Do you want to get more creative with your camera and understand its buttons and menu functions, but too busy to commit to 4 week photography courses or read a camera manual?

Photography Level: Beginner, some previous knowledge, or if moving to digital from film

Course duration: 1 full day 8 hours (1.5 hr classroom & 6.5 hr practical workshop incl Cockatoo Island, Sydney Harbour, Opera House & night shooting during winter months)
Cost: $270 (incl GST) incl detailed hand-out notes (so no need to write your own!), return ferry to Cockatoo Island

Course suitable for: This fun and informal digital photography course is for beginner or DSLR enthusiasts who want to become more confident photographers. A hands-on one-day course covering the fundamental aspects of taking great photos, understanding your own camera and functions and learning how to use the camera more creatively.

An ideal course for individuals who don’t have the time to enrol in long evening/weekend photo courses: It is also a cost-effective training course for time-pressed business employees of large corporations, small businesses and government organisations whose role requires proficiency in using the ‘office camera’.

Course outline: Begin with an hour and half session in the classroom covering basic theory on the fundamentals of digital photography and what makes a good photo as well as demystifying some of the technical jargon relating to your camera’s buttons / menus and what they do – an approachable environment to have your photographic questions answered. A practical photo workshop to Cockatoo Island and around Sydney Harbour will allow you to explore and develop your photographic skills: aperture, shutter speed, lighting, white balance, depth of field, composition, colour and viewpoint that control the creative process of capturing images.

Cockatoo is a large heritage-listed island in Sydney Harbour with a variety of gritty and maritime industrial photographic backdrops to inspire creative portrait and landscape shooting: architectural sandstone buildings, warehouses, colours and textures. You will learn how to adjust shutter and ISO speeds for shooting in varying lighting conditions - both outdoors on the island and inside warehouses where lighting is low.
