This one-day practical workshop will help aspiring photographers develop their ability to see and make more compelling images. With an emphasis on creativity and inspiration rather than technical information, it is an ideal follow-up to our popular Introduction to Digital Photography weekend workshop.

The day is divided into morning and afternoon sessions with lunch provided in between. Both sessions include some theory in the classroom, practical instruction in the field and opportunities to review and discuss participants' images. Course notes and other reference material are provided.

Topics covered include:

  • Intent — the difference between "taking" and "making" a photograph
  • How to find the best photographic subjects and opportunities
  • Learning the traditional "rules" — and when to break them
  • Understanding visual language — how we read images
  • Creating stronger compositions, before and after exposure
  • The digital darkroom — essential image editing tools and techniques

This intermediate-level workshop is intended for enthusiastic photographers who have a basic technical foundation and know how to use their camera in aperture-priority or manual mode. Participants are expected to bring a digital SLR camera with a fully charged battery and one or more lenses, memory card(s) and the camera’s instruction manual.

The fee is $195. Payment in full is required in advance. To make a booking directly and pay online, go to this address …
